A delightful romp through 14th century Italy. The bad guys were exceptionally evil and the good guys struggled to be good. Wonderful descriptions that painted the picture and moved on. Little twists throughout that kept you guessing. The characters were fairly archetypical, but for a just-for-fun read, this was great!Product details

As a lover of Dumas style historical romance I have searched for other authors who could provide me with that kind of high adventure in a historical setting. My search brought me to this book. Bowen give us a dark story of the Visconti taking various cities in pre/early (I'm a poor scholar)-renasance Italy. A true villain Visconti forces the main character to choose between his honor and love. What whould you choose.
Its a Captivating historical romance and thriller. Doesn't correctly follow the Visconti story though. Good history on Lombardy and Milan, Italy.
